Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic book gets the Muppet treatment in this film directed by Jim Henson’s son Brian (Jim sadly died in 1990). Here, young Jim Hawkins (former Grange Hill actor Kevin Bishop) is given a map of Treasure Island by dying man Flint, so heads off to find the hidden treasure on a boat captained by Smollett (aka Kermit the Frog). Also along for the ride is Long John Silver (Curry) who wants the treasure for himself, and when the motley crew arrive on the island they find that Flint left behind Benjamina Gunn (aka Miss Piggy), who may be after it herself.
It’s all a lot of fun, with Curry going deliciously over the top as Silver (probably the best idea when you are acting alongside a frog and a, erm, ham). And while you’re laughing, watch out for a bad guy character called Spa’am – Hormel Foods, the company that makes Spam, sued the film company for naming an evil character after their processed meat (the suit was unsuccessful).

Little ones may find Tim Curry’s Silver scary.
