A Russian animated tale dubbed into English, this is the story of a young boy (Jovovich) on a quest to save his family from hyenas terrorising his village.

In this world where animals reign over humans, it seems the village used to be protected by white wolves, so brave Savva goes off to find the magician who sent them away. On his journey, he teams up with a wolf that is also seeking the sorcerer, and a cast of quirky characters including a farting mosquito (Joe Pesci), all of whom must avoid the simian army on their trail led by evil Mum JoZee (Goldberg).

While grown-ups will find the story predictable, younger viewers should enjoy Savva’s quest, and while this doesn’t have the humour of classics like The Lion King or Brave, for example, it’s nonetheless an interesting and entertaining adventure for kids.

Is A Warrior’s Tail suitable for kids? Here are our parents’ notes...

Younger viewers (under 7) may be frightened by the monkey soldiers.

A scene of a boy fighting a hyena may also be upsetting. Later in the movie Savva is also chased by a pack of hyenas.
