The Men in Black are back to save the universe once more. This time around, Agent K (Jones) has ‘retired’ from the MIB and works in a post office, unaware of his previous life hunting bad-guy aliens living on earth. But when Agent J (Smith) needs his pal’s help, he restores K’s memory so the pair can fight the evil Serleena, a Kylothian monster cunningly disguised as a lingerie model (Lara Flynn Boyle).
The plot isn’t up to much but all the sci-fi comedy ideas that made the first film a huge hit are here – the great teaming of Smith and Jones, Frank the talking pug, Rip Torn as the man in charge, the funny script (‘Silly little planet. Anyone could take over the place with the right set of mammary glands’) and the bonkers special effects (including a giant, angry worm). The first one is far better, but this is still worth a look for fans.

Is Men In Black II suitable for kids? Here are our parents’ notes...

The alien that attacks the subway may be a bit scary for the under-10s.
As with the first movie, there are some gross moments, for example when an alien’s head is shot off and then it grows back.
