A cute little doggy comedy for younger viewers. After much nagging to his parents, young Owen (Aiken) convinces them to let him have a dog. The pooch they get is a little terrier named Hubble, but he’s not your average mutt. His real name is Canid3942 and he’s from Sirius (the dog star, of course), sent to earth to see how his doggie counterparts here are ruling over their human slaves. Oops. Soon Owen discovers he can understand his new dog, and Hubble explains that unless Earth’s dogs pull themselves together and take over the world, they’ll all be sent back to Sirius. So Owen and some neighbourhood dogs have to help Hubble rectify the situation before the arrival on earth of the impressive-sounding Greater Dane (voiced by Vanessa Redgrave), who will decide all the dogs’ fates.
This has an impressive cast providing the dogs’ voices (as well as Matthew Broderick as Hubble, there’s Carl Reiner, comic actress Delta Burke and Brittany Murphy), but the humour is clearly aimed at kids (grown-ups will groan at some of the jokes) and probably won’t be cool enough to impress the over-tens.
