A remake of the 1981 romance of the same name (both are based on the Scott Spencer novel), this is the story of posh girl Jade (Wilde), who falls for other-side-of-the-tracks boy David (Pettyfer). Soon they’re exchanging smouldering looks and while her mother doesn’t mind her daughter’s passionate first love, Jade’s dad (Bruce Greenwood) is not happy that his little girl is going doe-eyed over a boy when she should be thinking about heading off to med school.

Less steamy than the thirty-odd year-old Brooke Shields movie, this is a romance in the same vein as the numerous Nicholas Sparks adaptations that girls love. It’s sprinkled with the usual clichés, misunderstandings, obstacles and dramas you’d expect, but the actors are well cast and handsome enough to keep you watching even through the more predictable moments.
