A shaggy British comedy from former Goon Show director Joseph McGrath, this will be nostalgic stuff for grown-ups who remember the British TV comedies of the seventies – as well as Spike Milligan, the cast also includes Carry On actress Angela Douglas, Benny Hill Show actor Bob Todd and Welsh raconteur Victor Spinetti.
Jim Dale is the bumbling lab assistant who steals some growth-enhancing powder (hoping to improve his roses) that ends up being eaten by Digby the dog, who grows to gigantic size. It’s all pretty slapstick stuff as the dog rampages around (and kids may not be impressed by the seventies effects) but it’s fun, too. For younger viewers it’s an enjoyably silly slice of entertainment, for older viewers it’s a classic slice of British movie-making!
