Incredibly silly but enjoyable fantasy adventure that marked the final teaming of director Kevin Connor with star Doug McClure (they also worked on The Land That Time Forgot and its sequel, and also At the Earth’s Core). Also known as Seven Cities of Atlantis, it follows the exploits of a professor, his son Charles (Gilmore) and engineer Greg Collinson (McClure), who descend into the murky sea depths in Collinson’s experimental submerging contraption. Of course, their expedition goes pear-shaped when they are attacked by a giant octopus and dragged down to one of the cities of Atlantis. Held captive, they discover that the Atlanteans are actually from Mars and are using their super brains to manipulate history!
A rollicking adventure that boasts actress/dancer Cyd Charisse (Singin’ in the Rain) and Cheers’ John Ratzenberger in the supporting cast, this is one for fans of hokey British fantasy and a must for all monster-loving little boys.
