A prequel to the popular TV series, this adventure explains how the Powerpuff Girls came to be, and why they decided to dedicate their lives to crime-fighting. (Parents should note that such crime-fighting and ‘frequent mild peril’ are the reasons this is rated ‘PG’.)
Buttercup, Blossom and Bubbles were created in Professor Utonium’s lab – he was aiming to make the perfect girl when he accidentally added an extra chemical to the mix of sugar, spice and all things nice. The girls, complete with superhuman strength and flying abilities, aren’t that good to begin with, so are banished to a faraway planet until an even badder dude – Utonium’s monkey Mojo Jojo – decides he wants to take over the world. And of course, only the Powerpuff Girls can stop him. There are a few moments of quite subversive stuff as Mojo Jojo turns some monkeys into mutants, but littler viewers are unlikely to notice and will be cheering along as the three spunky heroines fly in to save us all.
