It’s tough being a twelve-year-old boy, as Spencer (Mazzello, best known for his role in Jurassic Park) well knows. He’s ignored by his dad and sister, they’ve just moved to a new town and the school bully has singled him out for punishment. So it’s handy that Spencer has just found a talking space suit then, isn’t it? And it’s even more useful when Spencer climbs inside and discovers he can control (to some extent) the 7ft tall contraption and become a kind of superhero in the process.
It’s fairly simple but cute stuff, aimed squarely at kids interested in sci-fi but who are too young to watch ‘grown-up’ science-fiction movies. The robot suit isn’t exactly high-tech and the effects aren’t top-notch, but the cast are winning and the finale (in which some bad-guy aliens come to earth to grab the suit for themselves) is fun and frantic.
