Justin And The Knights Of Valour

A Spanish animated adventure – otherwise known as Justin e a Espada da Coragem – dubbed into English, this is a medieval-style adventure with geeky young Justin (Highmore) wishing he could become a knight and win the heart of pretty spoiled brat Lara (Egerton). Unfortunately, knights have been banned in his kingdom, but bumbling Justin heads off to become one anyway, enlisting the help of three monks who can teach him the ancient ways of the Knights of Valour. Which may come in handy, as there’s a bad guy who is threatening to destroy the kingdom…

The animation here is dull and old-fashioned and the story pretty predictable, but young kids (the under-10s) will enjoy the adventure and the occasional bits of slapstick comedy, even if accompanying grown-ups will find it hard to stay awake. It’s all a bit similar – but not as good – as How To Train Your Dragon, and cinema-savvy kids will also spot moments nicked from Shrek and a handful of Disney animated movies too. One for wet weekends only, and don’t waste your money on the 3D version, either, as it’s completely redundant.
