Star Wars fans who found those fuzzy teddy bear creatures in Return of the Jedi almost as irritating as Jar Jar Binks should perhaps give a wide berth to this kiddie spin-off featuring the little munchkins. Wicket the Ewok (the one who befriended Leia in Jedi) and his pals come to the rescue of two human children whose spaceship has crash-landed on the forest moon of Endor. Their parents have been captured by a nasty creature, so the Ewoks decide to help them find them, even if it means a long, perilous journey. And, er, that’s about it.
Made for TV in the US (but released theatrically elsewhere), this looks much cheaper than a Star Wars movie but doesn’t mess with the franchise too much (although fans may be annoyed that the chattering Ewoks can now speak English). Clearly aimed at little kids, it passes the time and was followed by a sequel, Ewoks II: The Battle for Endor, in 1985, and an animated TV series, Ewoks
