Based on a true story, this is the tale of a cuddly seal named Andre, who is adopted by Maine harbour master Harry (Carradine) and his animal-loving family (they already have chickens, ducks, goats and frogs). Little Toni (Majorino) especially takes to the seal, but there’s trouble ahead as a local fisherman reports the family to the authorities (apparently you’re not supposed to keep a wild animal as a pet).
Kids will love the cute seal (actually played by a sea lion called Tory because seals are harder to train) as he has bubble baths, balances balls on his nose, blows raspberries, claps his flippers and even changes the TV channel to an episode of Lassie. Parents will notice there’s not much else to the movie except Andre’s tricks, though, so this one is probably best left to junior members of the audience (there are a few moments of seal and kiddie peril, but nothing too scary).
