When her boyfriend cancels their date, Chris (Shue) agrees to babysit the Anderson kids (Brewton and Keith Coogan) for the evening. However, when her best friend (Penelope Ann Miller) calls asking to be rescued from the city bus station, Chris has no choice but to bundle the kids into the car and head into Chicago to pick up her pal, and naturally numerous disasters occur on the way.
It’s basically a series of mishaps in the big city as the kids get lost, encounter criminals, end up on stage at a blues club and generally get themselves out of bizarre tricky situations. There are some funny moments to be had though, and Shue is sweet as the babysitter who has an unbelievably eventful evening with her charges. This film marked the directorial debut of Chris Columbus, who went on to make Home Alone and the first two Harry Potter movies.
