Emoji movie news!

 

Sony Pictures Animation announced the voice cast today for their Emoji movie, Emojimovie: Express Yourself. Scheduled for release next summer, the movie – based, of course, on the popular messaging symbols – will feature the voices of James Corden, Deadpool’s TJ Miller and Broad City’s Ilana Glazer.

 

The movie is set in Textopolis, a city where all the emojis live, hoping to be selected by a phone’s user. Every emoji has one facial expression except Gene, who was born without a filter and has lots of expressions.With his best friend Hi-5 and codebreaker Jailbreak, he sets out to travel through the apps on a phone in a bid to find the code that will fix Gene and make him like all the other emojis.

 

With a Tetris movie in the pipeline too, we’re wondering how long it will be before all the other apps on our phones get made into movies, too. WhatsApp: The Movie, anyone?
