IntoFilm’s 50 Films For Kids – do you agree?
The UK education charity has today released a list of the 50 films every child should see
IntoFilm, the UK education charity that seeks to put film at the heart of children’s learning, has today released a list of the 50 films every child should see before the age of 11. The list was compiled bearing in mind the impact each movie would have on a child’s intellectual, educational and emotional development, and suitability for family viewing, nostalgia and entertainment was also taken into consideration.
Here’s their list – what do you think? (You can also view it on the InfoFilm website at www.intofilm.org/msm)
One Hundred And One Dalmatians (1961)
Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs
The Gruffalo
Wallace And Gromit: The Curse Of The Were-Rabbit
Willy Wonka And The Chocolate Factory
It’s an interesting list, and of course, any list like this is subjective and they are bound to have 200mg online missed a few favourites. So while Movies4Kids is quite surprised to see the inclusion of forgettable (and in some instances, not very good) movies like Annie, Spielberg’s The BFG, Home, Hook, The Never Ending Story, Secret Life Of Pets and Space Jam, it’s great to see older classic movies like Up, Spirited Away, The Iron Giant and The Princess Bride make the list.
Click on each movie in the 50 list above to go to Movies4Kids’ own review, and below are just some of our suggestions of films that should/could have been included on the list of films every kid should see before they are 11… (all are U or PG certificates unless noted).
Big (this is a 12 certificate)
The Goonies (this is a 12 certificate)
